I was at a friend’s house recently. The topic of poker came up. During conversation he asked me, “Can you play the poker without chips?” After answering that, Question made me think. So, I did some research.
Poker games are built around betting or betting. So, unless you are playing hard for fun, you will need some kind of currency or financial option to play. Otherwise, it is almost impossible to know who is winning or losing. Almost globally, the most common item used in exchange for real currency is poker chips.
However, sometimes there will be an instant poker game and no real poker chips will be available. No worries, you probably have many different options to use as an alternative in your home or business space. I know, because when it comes to playing without chips, I found my home and office to cater to the needs of aspiring poker players.
Here Are Some Obvious And Maybe Not So Obvious Semi Poker Chip Options
1. Spare changes:
Okay, so obviously I saved it for the last time because you may have forgotten the coins made in your child’s pig bank or in the center console of your car. Speaking of which, I once made a 4,000 bank roll from an extra change that lay around. If I could do that, of course you could use those accidental savings to play instant games with your family or friends. Penny, nickel, diamonds, or all three will work perfectly. Just make sure you set the parameters ahead of time to see if the winner actually has to keep the money.
2. Play Money:
Probably the most common option around the house is in the form of money collected from various board games. The most obvious ones that come to mind are Monopoly, Payday, and Game of Life. It is possible that one or more of these types of games are stored somewhere in a closet or cabinet. If so, then counterfeit cash will serve you well in the game of poker. When real poker chips are not available, the best thing you can do is keep things simple and use only three different poker chips. I would suggest playing 25/50 blind and giving the following “chips” or denominations that go to the player’s pile:

- 100-8 chips
- $ 500 – 2 chips
This setup will give each player $ 2,000 or 40 large blinds to get started. It allows for an exciting action-packed game.
